This classic meatloaf recipe combines ground beef with flavorful seasonings, a moist breadcrumb mixture, and a tangy glaze for a hearty, comforting meal. It’s easy to prepare and perfect for a satisfying family dinner.

Ingredients

Meatloaf Mixture

  • 1 large egg
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • ½ cup minced onion
  • lbs ground beef (80/20)

Glaze

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare bowl mixtures: Preheat your oven to 350ºF. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and Worcestershire sauce. In another small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and freshly cracked black pepper. Mince the onion finely.
  2. Mix ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the ground beef, egg mixture, breadcrumb seasoning mixture, and minced onion. Use your hands to gently combine everything evenly, being careful not to overmix to keep the meatloaf tender.
  3. Shape loaf: Transfer the meat mixture onto a rimmed baking dish and shape it into a loaf approximately 4 inches wide, 8 inches long, and 2 inches tall, ensuring a uniform shape for even cooking.
  4. Prepare glaze: In a small bowl, mix together the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and yellow mustard. Spread this glaze evenly over the top and sides of the shaped meatloaf for a flavorful crust.
  5. Bake: Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 50 to 55 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165ºF, ensuring it is fully cooked and juicy.
  6. Rest and serve: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes to allow juices to redistribute. Slice and serve warm for a classic, comforting meal.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meat mixture to keep your meatloaf tender.
  • Resting the meatloaf after baking helps retain moisture and makes slicing easier.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165ºF for food safety.
  • Feel free to customize the seasoning to your taste with herbs or spices.
