These delicious Salmon Patties are a quick and easy meal featuring canned salmon mixed with fresh herbs, bell pepper, and spices, then fried to golden perfection. Perfect for a protein-rich lunch or dinner, they combine simple pantry staples with fresh flavors for a satisfying and versatile dish.

Ingredients

Salmon Patty Ingredients

  • 15 ounces canned salmon (3 cans, 5 oz each)
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup grated onion
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (such as Panko)
  • ½ medium bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon pepper (or to taste)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add canned salmon, egg, grated onion, breadcrumbs, chopped bell pepper, chopped fresh dill, lemon zest, lemon juice, sweet paprika, salt, and pepper into a large mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated and the mixture holds together well.
  2. Shape Patties: Using your hands, form the mixture into 8 to 10 evenly sized patties. Each patty should be compact and firm enough to hold its shape during cooking.
  3. Fry Patties: Heat approximately 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties in the skillet without overcrowding; fry in batches if necessary. Cook each side for 2 to 3 minutes or until the patties turn golden brown and crispy on the outside. Remove from the skillet and drain excess oil on paper towels before serving.

Notes

  • Use skin-on canned salmon for extra flavor and nutrients.
  • If mixture feels too wet, add more breadcrumbs to help bind patties.
  • For a gluten-free option, substitute regular breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed gluten-free crackers.
  • Serve with a side of tartar sauce, lemon wedges, or a fresh salad.
  • Can be baked in the oven at 375°F for 15-20 minutes as a lighter alternative to frying.
