Crispy and flavorful Air Fryer Crab Rangoon made with lump crab meat and creamy cheese, perfectly seasoned and wrapped in wonton wrappers. This appetizer is quick to prepare and air fried for a healthier alternative to traditional frying, served with a sweet chili dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Wonton Wrappers

  • 18-20 wonton wrappers, available in the international aisle

Crab Filling

  • 6 ounces lump crab meat, drained
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, heated in the microwave for 30 seconds or warmed on the counter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Others

  • Water, for closing the wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil or olive oil spray, for brushing the wontons (air frying method only)
  • Sweet chili sauce, to dip
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine lump crab meat, softened cream cheese, garlic powder, finely chopped green onion, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and sugar. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Assemble the Wontons: Lay each wonton wrapper flat on a clean surface. Place 1 teaspoon of the crab filling in the center of each wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water to help seal.
  3. Fold the Wontons: Gather the edges of each wonton wrapper together into a star shape, ensuring all corners are pinched tightly closed to prevent filling from leaking during cooking.
  4. Air Fry the Wontons: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes. Lightly brush each wonton with vegetable oil or spray with olive oil. Place the wontons in the air fryer basket in a single layer without overcrowding. Reduce the temperature to 350°F and air fry for 5-8 minutes, or until the wontons are crispy and turning golden brown.
  5. Serve: Remove the crab rangoons from the air fryer and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Serve warm with sweet chili dipping sauce and garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.

Notes

  • For a traditional method, you can fry the crab rangoons in vegetable oil heated to 350°F for 30-45 seconds until golden and crisp.
  • Do not overfill the wontons to avoid leaking during cooking.
  • Adjust cooking time based on your air fryer model for best results.
  • Use lump crab meat for best flavor and texture.
  • Warming cream cheese slightly makes it easier to mix with the other ingredients.
