This Deep Dish Pepperoni Pizza recipe yields a rich, thick-crust pizza loaded with savory pepperoni and gooey cheese, perfect for a cozy meal. The dough is made from scratch, allowing it to rise to fluffy perfection, topped with flavorful pizza sauce and cooked in the oven until golden and bubbly.

Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 1½ cups warm water
  • 1½ tsp honey
  • 1½ tsp yeast
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt

For the Topping

  • 5 Tbsp pizza sauce
  • 200g pizza cheese (grated)
  • 100g pepperoni slices

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm water and honey, stirring to dissolve. Add the yeast and stir again, then cover with a tea towel and let sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the Dough: Add the flour, olive oil, and salt to the yeast mixture. Using a mixer with a dough hook on low speed, knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth and slightly sticky. Alternatively, knead by hand until the same consistency is achieved.
  3. First Rise: Cover the dough with a clean tea towel and place it in a warm spot for at least 30 minutes, allowing it to double in size.
  4. Divide and Rest: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, divide it into two equal portions, and roll them into balls. Let these rest and rise for another 15 minutes.
  5. Preheat the Oven: Set the oven to 210°C (410°F) on fan bake mode to prepare for baking.
  6. Shape the Dough: Roll out each dough ball into circles using a rolling pin, then place each onto an oiled skillet or cake tin, forming a deep dish base.
  7. Add Toppings: Spread half of the pizza sauce evenly over each base. Sprinkle grated cheese over the sauce, and arrange the pepperoni slices on top.
  8. Bake the Pizza: Place the skillet or cake tin into the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbling and the crust is fully cooked.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure water is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • You can substitute pizza cheese with a blend of mozzarella and cheddar if desired.
  • If you prefer a thinner crust, roll the dough thinner and reduce baking time slightly.
  • The recipe can be doubled or halved to adjust servings.
  • Use a skillet with high sides or a specialized deep-dish pizza pan for optimal shape and crust thickness.
