The Harvest Mezcalita is a delightful autumn-inspired cocktail that combines smoky mezcal with the sweet and tart flavors of apple cider, lime, and maple syrup, perfectly balanced with a hint of cinnamon sugar rim. This refreshing drink is garnished with a thin apple slice and cinnamon stick, making it a festive choice for cozy gatherings or special occasions in the harvest season.

Ingredients

For the Rim

  • 1 lime wedge, for the rim
  • Cinnamon sugar, for the rim

For the Cocktail

  • Ice cubes, as needed
  • 3 ounces apple cider
  • 1-1/2 ounces mezcal
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce Cointreau
  • 1/2 ounce maple syrup

For Garnish

  • Thin apple slice
  • Cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Glass Rim: Rub the edge of a cocktail glass with a lime wedge to moisten it, then dip the rim into cinnamon sugar to coat it evenly. Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
  2. Mix the Cocktail: In a cocktail shaker, add the apple cider, mezcal, freshly squeezed lime juice, Cointreau, and maple syrup. Fill the shaker with ice to properly chill the mixture.
  3. Shake the Cocktail: Cover the shaker and shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels frosty, ensuring the ingredients are well combined and chilled.
  4. Strain and Serve: Strain the cocktail mixture into the prepared glass filled with ice, leaving the cinnamon sugar rim intact.
  5. Garnish: Add a thin apple slice and a cinnamon stick to the glass for an appealing autumnal garnish. Serve immediately to enjoy the freshest flavors.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of maple syrup to suit your taste.
  • Use freshly squeezed lime juice for the best flavor and balance.
  • If you prefer a less smoky flavor, substitute mezcal with a milder tequila.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, replace mezcal and Cointreau with extra apple cider and a splash of orange juice.
  • Chill the cocktail glass beforehand for an extra cold and refreshing drink.
