This homemade blue cheese dressing is a creamy, tangy, and flavorful condiment perfect for salads, dipping vegetables, or serving alongside wings. Made with blue cheese crumbles, mayonnaise, sour cream, and a blend of seasonings, it offers a rich and zesty taste that’s easy to prepare in just five minutes.

Ingredients

Blue Cheese Dressing Ingredients

  • 2 ounces blue cheese crumbles
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon dried dill
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sugar
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Buttermilk, milk, or water, as needed to thin

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a small bowl, place blue cheese crumbles, mayonnaise, sour cream, distilled white vinegar, fresh lemon juice, dried dill, garlic powder, sugar, and several grinds of freshly ground black pepper. Stir thoroughly while gently breaking up the blue cheese crumbles to ensure even distribution. Taste and season with a pinch of sea salt if necessary.
  2. Adjust Consistency: Assess the thickness of the dressing. If it is too thick, gradually add buttermilk, milk, or water one teaspoon at a time, stirring continuously until the desired consistency is reached. Use less liquid for a thick, creamy dip or more for a pourable dressing suitable for salads.
  3. Storage: Transfer any leftover dressing to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days. Note that the dressing will thicken when chilled; thin by stirring in small amounts of milk or water before serving if necessary.

Notes

  • Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor impact.
  • Adjust salt and pepper according to personal taste preferences.
  • Blue cheese crumbles can vary in strength; choose your preferred type for milder or stronger flavor.
  • Use buttermilk for a tangier taste; milk or water are milder options to thin as needed.
  • Refrigerate promptly and always keep the dressing covered to maintain freshness.
