These Jam Dot Oat Scones are a delightful breakfast or snack option featuring a tender blend of oats, vanilla yogurt, and sweet jam centers. Slightly crunchy from quick oats and tender from butter and yogurt, these easy-to-make scones bake to golden perfection, then are filled with your favorite fruit jam for a burst of sweetness in every bite.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1½ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup quick cooking oats

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, chilled
  • heaping ⅓ cup vanilla yogurt
  • ¾ cup fruit jam

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375° F with a rack in the center position. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, sea salt, and granulated sugar until evenly distributed.
  3. Cut in Butter: Using a fork or pastry cutter, cut the chilled unsalted butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles small pebbles. This ensures a flaky texture in the scones.
  4. Add Yogurt and Oats: Stir in the vanilla yogurt until just incorporated. Then add the quick cooking oats and mix until the dough is well combined, but be careful not to overmix.
  5. Form Dough Balls: Divide the dough into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then gently flatten into thick disks. Place these evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake Scones: Bake the scones in the preheated oven for 12 minutes, until they are golden and cooked through.
  7. Create Wells: Using the end of a wooden spoon, gently press a small well into the center of each warm scone to hold the jam.
  8. Fill with Jam and Serve: Transfer scones to a serving plate and allow to cool slightly for about 5 minutes. Spoon 1 tablespoon of your preferred fruit jam into each scone’s well and serve warm for the best taste.

Notes

  • Note 1: You can substitute vanilla yogurt with plain yogurt if preferred, but the vanilla adds a subtle sweetness.
  • Note 2: Press the wells gently to avoid breaking the scones; this will help hold the jam perfectly.
