It’s enhanced with optional cooked chickpeas for added texture and nutrition, making it a balanced and tasty treat.

Ingredients

Fruits

  • 1 small apple, cored and diced into small pieces
  • 1 small pear, cored and diced into small pieces
  • 1 small mandarin or orange, peeled and diced into small pieces
  • 1 small mango, peeled and diced into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup blueberries (or substitute berries of choice)
  • 1/2 cup grapes, cut in half lengthwise (or substitute more berries if omitting)
  • 2 tbsp pomegranate seeds (optional)
  • 1 banana, cut lengthwise and sliced

Other Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 to 2 tsp chaat masala (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup orange juice (or substitute juice of choice)
  • 1 tsp sugar (substitute maple syrup or other sweetener of choice)
  • 1/3 cup cooked chickpeas, drained and rinsed if using canned (optional)
  • Mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fruit: Place the diced apple, pear, mandarin or orange, mango, blueberries, grapes, pomegranate seeds (if using), and banana slices into a medium serving bowl. Ensure all fruit pieces are roughly uniform in size for balanced texture.
  2. Add seasoning and liquids: Sprinkle the chaat masala over the fruit mixture, then pour in the orange juice and add the sugar or chosen sweetener. If using cooked chickpeas, add them now. Gently mix all ingredients well to combine, ensuring the seasoning evenly coats the fruit and forms a slightly saucy base with juice pooling lightly at the bottom.
  3. Adjust flavors: Taste the fruit chaat and adjust seasoning, adding more chaat masala for tanginess, sugar for sweetness, or juice to increase moistness according to preference.
  4. Garnish and serve: If desired, garnish with fresh mint leaves for a refreshing finish. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor, or cover and refrigerate. Consume within one day for optimal freshness.

Notes

  • Best consumed fresh or within 24 hours to preserve fruit texture and flavor.
  • Chaat masala adds signature tang and spice; adjust quantity based on your taste preference.
  • Optional chickpeas add protein and make the dish more filling.
  • Substitute fruits and juices as per seasonal availability or preference.
  • Mint garnish adds a fresh aroma and brightens the dish visually.
