A warm and comforting Pear Crumble featuring tender, simmered pears topped with a crisp, golden oat and cinnamon crumble. Perfectly baked to create a delightful dessert that pairs beautifully with custard or ice cream.

Ingredients

Fruit Filling

  • 4 Pears (peeled and sliced)
  • 30 gram Butter
  • 30 gram Brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Water

Crumble Topping

  • 100 gram Butter (melted)
  • 100 gram Brown sugar
  • 1 cup Rolled oats
  • 110 gram Plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp Ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare Pears: Peel the pears and slice them thinly for even cooking. Preheat your oven to 180°C fan bake to get it ready for baking the crumble.
  2. Cook Pear Filling: In a shallow casserole dish over low heat, melt 30 grams of butter. Add 30 grams of brown sugar and cook for a few minutes until the mixture starts bubbling gently.
  3. Simmer Pears: Add the sliced pears to the butter and sugar mix, stir to coat evenly. Pour in 2 tablespoons of water and let it simmer for 5 minutes until the pears begin to soften. Remove from heat once done.
  4. Make Crumble Topping: In a large bowl, combine the melted 100 grams of butter with 100 grams of brown sugar. Stir in the rolled oats, plain flour, and ground cinnamon, mixing well to incorporate all ingredients.
  5. Assemble Crumble: Spread the crumble mixture evenly over the pear filling in the casserole dish, ensuring complete coverage.
  6. Bake: Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the crumble topping is crisp and golden brown.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve warm, ideally paired with custard and ice cream for an indulgent finish.

Notes

  • Use firm pears like Bosc or Anjou for best texture.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute the plain flour with gluten-free flour blend.
  • Adding a pinch of nutmeg can enhance the spice flavor.
  • Let the crumble cool slightly before serving to avoid burns from hot filling.
  • Can be reheated gently in the oven to retain crispness.
