Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or shaved steak)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 8 oz (225 g) white mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Seasonings and Sauces

  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Dairy and Cheese

  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup (120 ml) beef broth
  • 1 cup (115 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup (115 g) shredded provolone cheese

Herbs and Garnish

  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Cook Meat: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  3. Sauté Vegetables: Add the diced onion, green and red bell peppers, and sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Sauté for 5 to 6 minutes until the vegetables are softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute to release the aroma.
  4. Season & Combine: Stir in the salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth into the skillet. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes to combine flavors.
  5. Make It Creamy: Reduce the heat to low and add the softened cream cheese. Stir continuously until the cream cheese melts completely and blends smoothly with the meat and vegetables.
  6. Assemble Casserole: Transfer the creamy beef and vegetable mixture into a lightly greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Evenly sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese, provolone cheese, and dried oregano over the top.
  7. Bake: Place the baking dish uncovered in the preheated oven. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve hot alongside crusty bread, over rice, or with a fresh side salad for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For a thicker casserole, consider adding cooked pasta or diced potatoes before baking.
  • If you prefer a spicier version, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes when sautéing the vegetables.
  • Use fresh herbs like oregano or parsley for enhanced flavor if available.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • To make it gluten-free, ensure Worcestershire sauce is gluten-free or substitute with tamari sauce.
