This classic Pina Colada recipe blends frozen pineapple, creamy coconut, and rum into a smooth and refreshing tropical cocktail. Perfect for a quick and easy 5-minute drink, it’s a delicious way to bring the taste of the islands to any gathering.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 cups diced frozen pineapple
  • 2 cups crushed or cubed ice
  • 3 ounces canned cream of coconut (we like Coco Lopez brand)
  • 2 ounces pineapple juice
  • 1½ ounces freshly squeezed lime juice (from 2-3 limes)
  • 4 ounces light rum
  • 2 ounces dark rum (optional)
  • 4 dashes Angostura bitters (optional)
  • Pineapple wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Blend the cocktail: To a blender, add the frozen pineapple, crushed ice, cream of coconut, pineapple juice, lime juice, and light rum. If you like, add the dark rum and Angostura bitters for extra depth of flavor.
  2. Start blending on low: Begin blending on the lowest speed for about 10 seconds to combine the ingredients gently without splashing.
  3. Increase speed and blend until smooth: Gradually increase the blender speed to high and continue blending for 3 to 5 minutes until the mixture is perfectly smooth and creamy.
  4. Serve and garnish: Divide the blended drink evenly into 4 cups. Garnish each serving with a fresh pineapple wedge on the rim for an attractive presentation and extra burst of tropical flavor.

Notes

  • If you prefer a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum and add additional pineapple juice or coconut water.
  • Using frozen pineapple helps create a creamy, slushy texture without needing extra ice.
  • Adjust the amount of lime juice to suit your taste for acidity and brightness.
  • The Angostura bitters and dark rum are optional but add complexity and richness to the drink.
  • Serve immediately for the freshest flavor and best texture.
