These Pretzel Toffee Bars combine salty, crunchy pretzels with buttery, caramelized toffee and rich dark chocolate for a decadent homemade treat. Perfect for parties or a delightful snack, the bars are easy to make by layering pretzels with a hot toffee mixture, baking briefly, and topping with melted dark chocolate before setting.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 bag Salted Pretzel Thins (7.2 oz / 204 grams; approximately 70-88 crackers)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks, 226 grams)
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar (215 grams)
  • 2 cups dark chocolate disks (360 grams)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 395°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with heavy-duty aluminum foil and spray with nonstick spray or brush with butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Arrange Pretzels: Lay the salted pretzel thins, salt side down, in a single, tight layer covering the entire baking sheet.
  3. Melt Butter: In a medium pot over medium-high heat, melt the unsalted butter completely.
  4. Make Toffee Mixture: Add dark brown sugar to the melted butter and stir constantly as the mixture comes to a boil. Boil for 4-5 minutes while stirring continuously to prevent burning. Remove from heat and let sit briefly to reduce bubbles, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Pour Toffee Over Pretzels: Carefully pour the hot butter and sugar mixture evenly over the pretzels. Use a spoon or spatula to spread it evenly, ensuring all pretzels are coated.
  6. Bake Toffee: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the toffee layer on pretzels for 5 minutes.
  7. Add Chocolate: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the dark chocolate disks evenly over the hot pretzel and toffee layer. Return to the oven for 30 seconds to 1 minute until the chocolate slightly melts.
  8. Spread Melted Chocolate: Using a small metal spatula, spread the melted chocolate evenly over all the pretzels to fully coat them.
  9. Cool and Set: Let the baking sheet cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until the chocolate and toffee are fully set, typically several hours.
  10. Slice and Serve: Lift the set pretzel toffee slab onto a cutting board. Cut into squares or break into rough pieces by hand for serving.

Notes

  • Be cautious when boiling the toffee mixture as it gets extremely hot.
  • Use high-quality dark chocolate for best flavor and smooth melting.
  • The baking times and temperatures may vary slightly depending on oven performance; watch closely to avoid burning.
  • For easier cleanup, use a rimmed baking sheet lined with sturdy foil.
  • The bars keep well in an airtight container refrigerated for up to one week.
