Ingredients

Fruits

  • 3 pints strawberries
  • 1 juice lemon

Sweeteners

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Baking

  • 1 Angel Food Cake

Dairy

  • 2 cups whipped cream (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: Remove the 10 best-looking strawberries from the pint and set them aside for decoration.
  2. Prepare the strawberries: Remove the tops from the remaining strawberries and halve them. Then separate half of these halved strawberries and set them aside.
  3. Macerate the strawberries: Place the remaining halved strawberries in a bowl, toss with granulated sugar and lemon juice, cover, and refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow the strawberries to release their juices and sweeten.
  4. Cube the angel food cake: Cut the angel food cake into equal-sized cubes to prepare for layering.
  5. Build the first layer: Place a layer of the cubed angel food cake at the bottom of the trifle dish and cover it completely with a thin layer of whipped cream.
  6. Add fresh strawberry edges: Line the edges of the trifle dish with the unstirred, halved strawberries that were set aside earlier.
  7. Layer macerated strawberries: In the center, atop the whipped cream, spoon half of the macerated strawberries along with some of their accumulated juice.
  8. Add a whipped cream layer: Top the strawberries with another layer of whipped cream, then spread the remaining cubed angel food cake over it, and finish with a thin spread of whipped cream on top.
  9. Repeat strawberry layering: Create another strawberry layer by lining the edges again with fresh strawberries and placing the remaining macerated strawberries with their juices in the center.
  10. Finish with whipped cream and decoration: Top generously with whipped cream, building it up higher this time, and then place the 10 reserved best-looking strawberries on top for an attractive garnish.

Notes

  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and sweetness.
  • You can substitute store-bought whipped cream with homemade for a fresher taste.
  • Chilling the macerated strawberries enhances their natural sweetness and flavor.
  • The angel food cake provides a light texture that pairs well with juicy strawberries and creamy whipped topping.
  • This dessert can be prepared ahead of time and kept refrigerated for up to 24 hours before serving.
