Delight in this simple yet flavorful Traeger Dessert Smoked Apples recipe, perfect for your next BBQ party. This recipe uses fresh apples smoked to tender perfection with brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins, and walnuts, creating a warm, smoky dessert that pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Smoked Apples

  • 5 medium apples (Gala suggested), halved lengthwise and cores removed
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp salted butter, melted
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup raisins or cranberries
  • 2 tbsp walnuts, crushed

Serving

  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Pellet Grill: Preheat your Traeger, Pitt Boss, or any pellet grill to 225-250°F (107-121°C). The recommended smoking temperature is 250°F to achieve an ideal cooking pace for the apples.
  2. Prepare Apples: Halve and core the Gala apples lengthwise. Place them cut side up in a baking dish or cast iron skillet.
  3. Add Toppings: Evenly sprinkle the brown sugar, drizzle the melted butter, then add cinnamon, raisins (or cranberries), and crushed walnuts on top of the apple halves.
  4. Smoke the Apples: Place the prepared apples in the pellet grill and smoke at 250°F for 60-90 minutes. Smoke until the apples are fork-tender but still hold a slight bite, avoiding mushiness.
  5. Cool and Serve: Remove the smoked apples from the grill, let them cool slightly, and serve warm. Top with vanilla ice cream if desired for an indulgent dessert.

Notes

  • Choose your favorite apple variety; Gala is suggested for its sweetness and texture.
  • Adjust smoking time based on your preferred apple doneness—less time for firmer apples, more for softer.
  • Vanilla ice cream is optional but adds a delightful creamy contrast.
  • Use a cast iron skillet or baking dish suitable for smoking to hold the apples and toppings during cooking.
