Combining creamy avocado with zesty lemon juice and crunchy vegetables, these wraps deliver a flavorful twist on the classic tuna salad, served in crisp butter lettuce leaves for a low-carb, gluten-free, and refreshing dish.

Ingredients

Tuna Salad

  • 2 (6-oz) cans tuna, drained
  • ½ large avocado
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp fresh lemon juice, to taste
  • 1 Tbsp stone ground mustard
  • ¼ cup red onion, finely chopped
  • ⅓ cup celery, finely chopped
  • ⅓ cup dill pickles, finely chopped
  • 3 Tbsp fresh dill, finely chopped
  • ¼ tsp sea salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

For Serving

  • 8 leaves butter lettuce (or living lettuce)

Instructions

  1. Mash the avocado and lemon juice: In a mixing bowl, combine the avocado and fresh lemon juice. Mash them together thoroughly with a fork or potato masher until the mixture is creamy and smooth.
  2. Mix all tuna salad ingredients: Add the drained tuna, stone ground mustard, finely chopped red onion, celery, dill pickles, fresh dill, sea salt, and black pepper to the mashed avocado mixture. Stir well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Adjust seasoning: Taste the tuna salad and adjust the flavors by adding more sea salt, lemon juice, or mustard as desired to suit your preference.
  4. Assemble the wraps: Scoop the prepared tuna salad into the center of each butter lettuce leaf. This recipe yields about 8 small lettuce wraps. Serve immediately and enjoy the fresh, flavorful wraps.

Notes

  • Make sure to drain the canned tuna well to avoid a soggy salad.
  • Use ripe avocado for a creamier texture.
  • You can customize the level of lemon juice and mustard to your taste preference.
  • These wraps are best served fresh to keep the lettuce crisp.
  • For added crunch, consider adding chopped nuts or seeds if you like.
  • Butter lettuce is recommended for its soft, pliable leaves, but any crisp lettuce variety works.
