This Popcorn with Buffalo Honey Butter recipe combines the sweet richness of honey with the spicy kick of classic hot sauce, creating a perfectly balanced snack. Freshly popped popcorn is coated in a luscious buffalo honey butter sauce, then baked to infuse flavors and crisp the coating. Ideal as a flavorful snack for game day or any casual gathering.

Ingredients

Buffalo Honey Butter Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce (recommended: Frank’s Red Hot)
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter

Popcorn

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ⅓ cup popcorn kernels
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 300℉ (150℃) to prepare for baking the coated popcorn later.
  2. Make the buffalo honey butter sauce: In a small pot over medium heat, combine the honey and hot sauce. Bring to a gentle simmer, and as soon as bubbles appear, turn off the heat. Stir in 4 tablespoons of salted butter until fully melted and the sauce is smooth. Set aside.
  3. Pop the popcorn: In a large pot over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil with 1 tablespoon salted butter until melted. Add the popcorn kernels, give the pot a shake to coat evenly, then cover and reduce heat to medium.
  4. Cook the popcorn: Allow the kernels to start popping, shaking the pot occasionally to prevent burning and distribute heat evenly. When popping intensifies, slightly crack the lid to let steam escape and keep popcorn crisp.
  5. Coat the popcorn: Once popping slows to a few seconds between pops, remove the lid and immediately pour the buffalo honey butter sauce over the popcorn. Stir thoroughly to coat each kernel evenly.
  6. Bake the coated popcorn: Spread the coated popcorn in an even layer on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven at 300℉ for exactly 10 minutes to infuse flavors and crisp the popcorn coating.
  7. Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and let the popcorn cool slightly. Serve warm for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Make sure to crack the lid slightly when the popcorn is popping vigorously to allow steam to escape and keep the popcorn crisp.
  • Baking the popcorn after coating helps set the sauce and prevents sogginess.
  • Adjust the amount of hot sauce to control the spice level.
  • Use fresh popcorn kernels for best popping results.
  • Store leftover popcorn in an airtight container to keep it crispy.
