This Classic Lemonade recipe offers a perfectly balanced and refreshing homemade beverage combining fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and water. It’s easy to make, naturally sweetened, and ideal for cooling off on a warm day or serving at gatherings.

Ingredients

For the Simple Syrup

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

For the Lemonade

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 1/4 cups fresh squeezed lemon juice (about 8 lemons)

Instructions

  1. Make Simple Syrup: Add 2 cups of water and 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar to a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring or whisking constanty until the sugar is completely dissolved. Once dissolved, remove the pan from heat and allow the syrup to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare Lemonade Base: Pour the remaining 2 cups of water into a large pitcher.
  3. Juice the Lemons: Squeeze fresh lemons until you have about 1 1/4 cups of lemon juice. Add the lemon juice to the pitcher with the water.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Pour the cooled simple syrup into the pitcher with the lemon water mixture. Stir thoroughly to combine all the ingredients evenly.
  5. Chill: Place the lemonade in the refrigerator for about 2 hours or until it is thoroughly chilled.
  6. Serve: Once chilled, serve the lemonade over ice for a refreshing drink.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of sugar in the simple syrup.
  • Freshly squeezed lemon juice is best for natural flavor; bottled lemon juice will alter taste.
  • For extra flavor, garnish with lemon slices or fresh mint leaves.
  • The lemonade can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
