Cozy Golden Milk is a warm, soothing beverage made by gently simmering milk with turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and black pepper. This comforting, spiced drink is naturally sweetened with honey and can be enjoyed dairy or dairy-free, perfect for calming evenings or a nourishing pick-me-up.

Ingredients

Milk Base

  • 3 cups milk (of choice – dairy or dairy-free)

Spices

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric powder (or 1/2 Tablespoon finely grated fresh turmeric)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger powder (or 1 teaspoon finely grated fresh ginger)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper (freshly cracked)

Optional Additions

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 Tablespoon honey (or another sweetener of choice, adjust to taste or omit)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add the milk, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and black pepper to a small saucepan. Whisk them together thoroughly to ensure the spices are evenly dispersed throughout the milk.
  2. Heat and Simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat and warm the mixture until it is steaming but not boiling. Then reduce the heat to maintain a gentle simmer. Continue to simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, whisking occasionally to prevent the spices from settling and to develop the flavors.
  3. Add Flavorings and Sweeten: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract if using. Wait about a minute before adding the honey or preferred sweetener, adjusting the sweetness to your taste.
  4. Strain and Serve: For a smooth texture, strain the golden milk into mugs to remove any spice residues. Optionally, froth the milk briefly to create a latte-style top. Serve warm immediately for a cozy, comforting drink.

Notes

  • Use fresh grated turmeric and ginger for a more vibrant and intense flavor.
  • Adjust sweetness according to personal preference or dietary needs.
  • Black pepper is essential as it enhances the absorption of turmeric’s active compounds.
  • Golden milk is best enjoyed fresh and warm but can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated gently.
  • You can substitute dairy milk with almond, oat, coconut, or soy milk for a dairy-free version.
