This easy and fresh guacamole recipe features ripe avocados mashed to creamy perfection and mixed with diced tomato, jalapeño, cilantro, onion, lime juice, and kosher salt. Ready in just 10 minutes, it’s the perfect dip or topping for your favorite Mexican dishes or snacks.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 large ripe avocados
  • 1 Roma tomato, diced (optional)
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, diced
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
  • ¼ small onion, finely diced
  • ½ lime, juiced, plus more to taste
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the avocados: Cut the avocados in half and carefully remove the pits using a sharp knife. Scoop the avocado flesh out with a spoon and transfer it into a medium mixing bowl.
  2. Mash the avocado: Using a fork, potato masher, or molcajete, mash the avocado until you achieve your preferred texture—whether chunky or smooth.
  3. Combine the ingredients: Stir in the chopped cilantro, diced tomato, finely diced onion, lime juice, diced jalapeño, and kosher salt into the mashed avocado. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
  4. Adjust seasoning: Taste the guacamole and add more lime juice or salt as needed to balance the flavors to your liking.

Notes

  • For a spicier guacamole, add more jalapeño or include the seeds.
  • If you prefer a milder dip, omit the jalapeño entirely.
  • To keep the guacamole from browning quickly, cover it tightly with plastic wrap, pressing the wrap directly onto the surface, and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • This guacamole is best served fresh within a few hours of preparation.
