Fire Crackers are a spicy, crunchy snack made by coating saltine crackers in a flavorful mixture of olive oil, ranch seasoning, garlic, onion powder, and red pepper flakes. After marinating overnight, they are baked to achieve a perfect crispiness, making them an addictive appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Seasoning Mix

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 4 Tbsp (about 2 packages) ranch dressing mix
  • 3 Tbsp red pepper flakes

Main Ingredients

  • 16 oz package of saltine crackers (4 sleeves)
  • 2 cups olive oil

Instructions

  1. Mix Marinade: In a large gallon zip-top plastic bag, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, ranch dressing mix, and red pepper flakes. Seal the bag and knead it thoroughly to blend all the ingredients into a smooth marinade.
  2. Add Crackers: Place all four sleeves (16 oz) of saltine crackers into the bag with the marinade. Reseal the bag and gently turn it over several times to ensure every cracker is well coated with the spicy mixture. Repeat turning for better coverage.
  3. Rest Overnight: Let the sealed bag sit overnight at room temperature. This resting period allows the crackers to absorb the flavors fully and the marinade to penetrate for a spicier, tastier snack.
  4. Bake Crackers: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Remove the crackers carefully from the bag and spread them out evenly on a baking sheet, avoiding overcrowding. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes to crisp them up and enhance the flavors.

Notes

  • Be sure to use a large enough plastic bag to avoid breaking the crackers while mixing.
  • Letting the crackers rest overnight is key for full flavor absorption.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to control the heat level to your taste.
  • Bake at a low temperature to prevent the crackers from burning and to keep them crispy.
  • Store leftover crackers in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
