Heaven on Earth Cake is a delightful layered dessert featuring tender angel food cake, creamy vanilla pudding blended with sour cream, and luscious cherry pie filling. Topped with fluffy whipped topping and toasted almond slivers, this no-bake chilled treat is perfect for parties or a refreshing family dessert.

Ingredients

Cake

  • 1 box Angel food cake or 1 prepared Angel Food Cake

Pudding Mixture

  • 1 package (3.4 ounces) instant vanilla pudding
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup sour cream

Fruit and Toppings

  • 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
  • 1 tub (8 ounces) Cool Whip
  • 1 tablespoon almond slivers, toasted

Instructions

  1. Bake the Cake: Bake the angel food cake according to the package’s directions. Once baked, allow it to cool completely before cutting it into cubes.
  2. Prepare the Pudding Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the instant vanilla pudding mix, milk, and sour cream. Beat the mixture until it’s smooth and well blended. Set this mixture aside.
  3. Layer the Base: In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread half of the cubed angel food cake in a single, even layer.
  4. Add Cherry Filling: Spoon about two-thirds of the cherry pie filling evenly over the layer of cake cubes.
  5. Second Cake Layer: Arrange the remaining half of the angel food cake cubes over the cherry filling layer, creating a second layer.
  6. Top with Pudding: Spoon the prepared pudding mixture over the second layer of cake, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  7. Add Whipped Topping: Spread the Cool Whip evenly over the pudding layer to create a smooth topping.
  8. Garnish: Spoon the remaining cherry pie filling over the whipped topping and sprinkle with toasted almond slivers for added crunch and flavor.
  9. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the assembled cake for 4 to 5 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set. Cut into servings and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can use a store-bought angel food cake or bake your own from a box mix.
  • For a nut-free version, omit the toasted almond slivers.
  • Make sure the cake is completely cooled before cutting to prevent crumbling.
  • The dessert can be assembled the night before to save time and improve flavor blending.
  • For variation, try using other pie fillings such as blueberry or strawberry instead of cherry.
