This refreshing Strawberry Simple Syrup is an easy-to-make sweetener made from fresh strawberries, sugar, and water. Perfect for adding a burst of natural strawberry flavor to beverages, desserts, and cocktails, it offers a vibrant red color and a lightly sweet taste. The syrup is simmered gently to bring out the fruit’s essence without burning or dulling its brightness.

Ingredients

Strawberry Simple Syrup Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries, granulated sugar, and water over medium heat. This will begin the infusion process to release the flavor of the strawberries into the syrup.
  2. Simmer Mixture: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar and prevent sticking. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes until the strawberries are very soft and the syrup has taken on a bright red hue.
  3. Cool Slightly: Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly to avoid burns during straining and to let flavors meld.
  4. Strain Syrup: Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a clean jar or bottle, pressing gently on the strawberries to extract as much liquid as possible without forcing pulp through.
  5. Refrigerate: Allow the syrup to cool completely at room temperature, then cover and refrigerate. Use chilled or at room temperature as a flavor enhancer for drinks and desserts.

Notes

  • The syrup may become cloudy if pulp or seeds remain; to keep it clear, avoid pressing the berries too hard during straining and cook over medium heat gently to prevent foam and crystallization.
  • Maintain medium heat while simmering to preserve the syrup’s bright color and avoid burning or foaming.
  • The syrup is ready when it is vibrantly red and lightly coats the back of a spoon; no need for a thermometer.
