This homemade whipped cream recipe creates a light, fluffy, and creamy topping perfect for desserts, hot chocolate, or any sweet treat. Made with just three simple ingredients—cold heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and pure vanilla extract—this whipped cream is easy to prepare using a stand mixer, delivering stiff peaks with a smooth vanilla flavor.

Ingredients

Whipped Cream Ingredients

  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream (cold) (2 cups)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Chill the Mixing Bowl: Place the bowl of a stand mixer or a large glass or metal mixing bowl into the refrigerator to chill for at least 15-30 minutes or longer to ensure the cream whips properly.
  2. Add Ingredients: Pour the cold heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and pure vanilla extract into the chilled bowl.
  3. Begin Whipping: Attach the wire whisk to your standing mixer or use a handheld mixer. Start beating the ingredients together on low speed to avoid splatter, then gradually increase the speed as the mixture begins to thicken.
  4. Whip to Stiff Peaks: Continue beating for 60-90 seconds, stopping halfway through to scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure all ingredients are evenly mixed. Whip until stiff peaks form, meaning the cream holds its shape firmly when the whisk is lifted.
  5. Transfer & Serve: Transfer the whipped cream into a piping bag fitted with a Wilton 1M tip for decorative topping or place it in a serving dish. Use immediately on desserts, hot chocolate, or refrigerate briefly for later use.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure all equipment and ingredients are well chilled.
  • Do not over-whip the cream as it can turn into butter.
  • Adjust the powdered sugar amount to taste for sweetness.
  • Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
  • You can replace vanilla extract with other flavors such as almond or peppermint extract for variation.
