Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups Corn Chex cereal
  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups Wheat Chex cereal
  • 2 cups mini pretzels
  • 1 cup bagel chips
  • 1 cup salted peanuts (optional)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter, cut into tablespoon pieces
  • 1/2 cup hot honey
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

Spices

  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 275°F and line two large rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make clean-up easy.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a very large bowl, combine the Corn Chex, Rice Chex, Wheat Chex, mini pretzels, bagel chips, and salted peanuts if using. Gently toss them together to distribute all ingredients evenly.
  3. Make the Hot Honey Butter Mixture: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the hot honey, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, and kosher salt until the mixture is smooth and fully combined. Remove from heat promptly.
  4. Coat the Chex Mix: Pour the warm hot honey butter mixture over the cereal and snack mix. Use a large spatula to gently but thoroughly stir until every piece is evenly coated with this flavorful glaze.
  5. Bake the Mix: Spread the coated Chex mix in an even layer on the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, stirring well every 15 minutes. Each time you stir, rotate the pans and switch their positions between the middle and bottom racks to ensure even baking and prevent any hot spots.
  6. Cool Completely: Remove the baking sheets from the oven and allow the mix to cool completely on the pans. As it cools, the mix will crisp up nicely.
  7. Serve or Store: Once cooled, break the mix into clusters. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature to keep it fresh and crunchy.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, adjust the amount of hot honey according to your spice preference.
  • Peanuts are optional but add a nice texture and flavor; feel free to omit for a nut-free version.
  • Make sure to stir and rotate the pans during baking to avoid burning any part of the mix and ensure even crispiness.
  • Store the mix in an airtight container to maintain freshness and crunchiness for up to 1 week.
  • Use parchment paper or silicone baking mats to prevent sticking and ease of cleanup.
