Refreshing and naturally sweet mango agua fresca made with fresh mangoes, lime juice, and a touch of optional sweetener. This vibrant Mexican-inspired drink is perfect for hot days, offering a light, fruity flavor that can be served chilled with mint or basil for added freshness.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 fresh mangoes, pitted and peeled
  • 4 cups water
  • ½-1 lime, juiced
  • 1-2 tbsp sweetener such as maple syrup or agave nectar (optional)
  • Fresh mint or fresh basil (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Blend Mango and Water: In a blender, combine the peeled mangoes, 4 cups of water, and half of the lime juice. Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth and consistent.
  2. Adjust Flavor: Taste the blended mixture and add more lime juice if desired. Add sweetener such as maple syrup or agave nectar to taste; around 1 to 2 tablespoons is typical depending on the mango’s natural sweetness. Blend again briefly if sweetener is added.
  3. Strain (Optional): For a smoother juice without pulp, pour the blended mango mixture through a fine-mesh colander into a clean pitcher or jar, pressing gently to extract liquid.
  4. Chill: Refrigerate the mango agua fresca until well chilled, ideally for at least 1 hour before serving.
  5. Serve: Muddle fresh mint or basil leaves at the bottom of each glass if desired. Add ice cubes and pour the chilled mango agua fresca over. Garnish with additional mint or basil leaves and enjoy.

Notes

  • The amount of lime juice can be adjusted according to your preferred level of tartness.
  • Sweetener is optional, best to adjust based on mango sweetness.
  • Straining the juice is optional but recommended for a pulp-free texture.
  • Can be garnished with herbs like mint or basil for a refreshing twist.
  • Best served chilled, ideal for warm weather or as a healthy alternative to soda.
