This Saltine Cracker Toffee is a deliciously sweet and crunchy treat combining salty crackers with buttery toffee, melted chocolate, and crunchy pecans. Perfect for holidays or anytime you want an easy, indulgent dessert that delivers a perfect balance of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

Cracker Base

  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers (about 35 crackers)

Toffee Topping

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar (packed)

Chocolate and Nuts

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¾ cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 400℉. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Arrange Crackers: Lay out the saltine crackers in a single, even layer on the lined baking sheet to form the base for the toffee.
  3. Make Toffee Mixture: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter and packed light brown sugar. Stir continuously until the mixture is melted and smooth.
  4. Boil Toffee: Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a boil. Stop stirring once boiling begins and let it boil for 3 minutes to thicken and develop the toffee flavor.
  5. Pour Toffee Over Crackers: Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture over the arranged crackers and spread it evenly using a spatula to cover all crackers.
  6. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes to allow the toffee to set slightly.
  7. Add Chocolate Chips: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee layer. Let sit for 5 minutes to allow the chocolate to soften and melt.
  8. Spread Melted Chocolate and Add Pecans: Using a spatula, spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee. Then sprinkle the chopped pecans over the top for added crunch and flavor.
  9. Cool and Set: Let the toffee cool at room temperature for 30 minutes, then refrigerate it for 2–3 hours until fully set and firm.
  10. Serve: Once set, cut the toffee into squares and enjoy your sweet, salty, and crunchy treat!

Notes

  • Use parchment paper on the baking sheet to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  • Be careful when pouring the hot toffee mixture as it is very hot and can cause burns.
  • Allow the chocolate chips to melt completely before spreading for a smooth chocolate layer.
  • For a nut-free version, omit the pecans or substitute with seeds like pumpkin or sunflower seeds.
  • Store the toffee in an airtight container in the refrigerator to maintain freshness and crispness.
