Crunchy and flavorful seasoned oyster crackers perfect for snacking or serving with soups. These crackers are coated with a delicious blend of ranch seasoning, dill, garlic powder, and black pepper, then baked to a toasty finish, making them an irresistible savory treat.

Ingredients

Seasoning Mix

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted) or vegetable oil
  • 1 packet (1 oz) dry ranch mix
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried dill
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Main Ingredient

  • 18 oz oyster crackers (2 bags)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Crackers: Place the oyster crackers into a large mixing bowl, ensuring that they are spread out evenly for coating.
  2. Mix Seasoning: In a separate small bowl, combine the melted butter or vegetable oil with the dry ranch mix, dried dill, garlic powder, and black pepper, stirring well to combine all seasonings uniformly.
  3. Coat Crackers: Pour the seasoned butter mixture over the crackers and toss thoroughly to coat each cracker evenly with the seasoning.
  4. Preheat Oven: Set your oven temperature to 275°F (135°C) to prepare for gentle baking of the crackers.
  5. Bake Crackers: Spread the seasoned crackers evenly on two baking sheets and bake for 15-20 minutes until they become toasty and the oil has been absorbed, stirring once or twice if desired to ensure even toasting.
  6. Cool and Store: Remove the crackers from the oven and allow them to cool completely. Once cooled, store the crackers in an airtight container to retain their crispness.
  7. Optional Slow Cooking Step: Place the seasoned crackers into a crock pot and cook on LOW for 1 hour. After an hour, remove the lid and stir the crackers. If they still appear wet, continue cooking on low with the lid off, stirring occasionally until desired dryness is achieved. Then remove and cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

Notes

  • You can substitute vegetable oil for the butter if you prefer a dairy-free option.
  • Ensure crackers are completely cooled before storing to keep them crunchy.
  • Adjust seasoning amounts according to personal taste preferences.
  • The slow cooker method can be used as an alternative to baking for a different texture.
  • Store crackers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
