This Simple Salisbury Steak recipe features tender ground beef patties seasoned with a flavorful blend of spices and topped with a rich, savory brown gravy. Cooked in a skillet, this classic comfort food is easy to prepare and perfect for a hearty family meal.

Ingredients

Patties

  • 1 lb Lean Ground Beef
  • 1/3 cup Bread Crumbs
  • 2 tsp Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

Gravy

  • 2 packets Brown Gravy Mix
  • 2 cups Hot Water
  • 1 tsp Ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine the lean ground beef, bread crumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to gently massage and mix all the ingredients together until well incorporated, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  2. Cook the Patties: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the beef patties in the skillet and cook each side until no longer pink in the center, usually about 4-5 minutes per side depending on thickness.
  3. Prepare the Gravy: Lower the skillet’s heat to low. In a separate bowl, whisk together the brown gravy mix and hot water until fully blended. Stir in ketchup and Worcestershire sauce for added flavor.
  4. Simmer Patties in Gravy: Pour the gravy mixture over the cooked patties in the skillet. Allow the mixture to simmer gently over low heat until the gravy is warmed through and thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute the beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Serve the Salisbury steaks over mashed potatoes or egg noodles for a complete meal.
  • If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix an additional teaspoon of gravy mix with a little cold water and stir into the simmering gravy.
  • Storing leftover patties in gravy in an airtight container in the refrigerator keeps well for up to 3 days.
