Ingredients

Sloppy Joe Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, seeded, cored and chopped
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Slider Assembly

  • 1 package (12 count) Hawaiian Bread Rolls
  • 6 slices sliced Cheddar Cheese
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Cook beef: In a wide pan over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook, breaking apart with the back of a spoon until it begins to render fat.
  2. Add onions and bell peppers: Drain any excess fat except for about 1 tablespoon. Add the chopped onions and red bell peppers to the pan. Continue cooking until the vegetables soften and the beef is lightly browned.
  3. Add sloppy joe sauce ingredients: Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, white vinegar, and brown sugar. Mix well until the sugar dissolves and the sauce is fully incorporated. Bring to a boil.
  4. Simmer meat mixture: Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and simmer the mixture for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cook until the meat is fully cooked and the sauce has thickened and reduced.
  5. Season: Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove the pan from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  6. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Prepare baking dish: Lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  8. Slice rolls: Using a serrated knife, carefully slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally to separate the top and bottom halves. Place the bottom half of the rolls in the prepared baking pan.
  9. Spoon filling: Evenly spread the sloppy joe meat mixture over the bottom rolls, covering the surface completely.
  10. Add cheese: Arrange the cheddar cheese slices evenly over the meat mixture.
  11. Top with bread: Place the top halves of the rolls over the cheese layer to form the sliders.
  12. Brush tops with butter glaze: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, Parmesan cheese, and Italian seasoning. Brush this mixture generously over the tops of the sandwich rolls.
  13. Bake sliders: Cover the baking pan with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until the sliders are heated through and the cheese has melted.
  14. Serve: Remove the sliders from the oven, cut into individual portions, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra spice, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the meat mixture.
  • You can substitute Hawaiian rolls with any soft dinner rolls or slider buns of your choice.
  • Make sure to drain excess fat to avoid greasy sliders but leave about 1 tablespoon for flavor.
  • Sliders can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving for convenience.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
