These marinated ground beef hamburgers deliver juicy, flavorful patties thanks to a simple yet delicious marinade. Ready in just 16 minutes, this recipe uses a blend of cider vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, and spices to infuse the beef with savory, slightly tangy notes, making these burgers perfect for a quick, satisfying meal. Optional white cheddar cheese and your favorite toppings paired with toasted buns complete this classic American favorite with a tasty twist.

Ingredients

Marinade

  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons gluten-free soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Beef and Toppings

  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 4 slices white cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 4 hamburger buns (gluten-free if needed)
  • Iceberg lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, ketchup, mayo, or toppings of choice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade and Mix: In a large mixing bowl, combine cider vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, maple syrup or honey, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well until combined. Add the ground beef to the bowl and gently incorporate the marinade using clean hands, being careful not to overly break up the meat. Let it marinate at room temperature for 10 minutes.
  2. Form Patties: Divide the marinated ground beef into four equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty approximately the size of your palm, roughly a little over one-third pound each.
  3. Cook the Burgers: Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat or preheat an indoor/outdoor grill. Cook the patties for 3 minutes on one side, then flip and cook an additional 3 minutes on the other side to achieve medium-rare doneness.
  4. Add Cheese and Toast Buns: During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of white cheddar cheese on each patty. If using a skillet, cover with a lid to help the cheese melt. If grilling, close the grill lid. At the same time, briefly toast the hamburger buns until lightly browned.
  5. Assemble and Serve: Place each burger on a toasted bun and add desired toppings such as iceberg lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, ketchup, and mayo. Serve immediately and enjoy your juicy marinated hamburgers.

Notes

  • Marinating the meat only briefly at room temperature helps deepen flavor without breaking down the texture.
  • Do not over-handle the ground beef when mixing to keep the burgers tender.
  • Cooking time results in medium-rare; adjust time slightly if you prefer more done burgers.
  • For gluten-free option, use gluten-free buns and soy sauce.
  • Optional maple syrup or honey balances the vinegar tang with mild sweetness.
