This classic homemade lemonade recipe is a perfect refreshing drink made from freshly squeezed lemons, sweetened with simple syrup and diluted with cold water. It’s easy to prepare in just 15 minutes and yields a clean, bright flavor that’s ideal for warm days or any occasion that calls for a cool, tangy beverage.

Ingredients

For the Lemonade:

  • 1 1/2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 8 to 10 medium lemons)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water (for the simple syrup base)
  • 4 cups cold water (filtered preferred)
  • Ice cubes (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Make the Simple Syrup: Combine the granulated sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir gently until the sugar completely dissolves and the liquid turns clear, forming a simple syrup. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the Lemons: Roll each lemon firmly on the countertop using the palm of your hand to soften them. Then slice the lemons in half and juice them using a citrus juicer until all juice is extracted.
  3. Strain the Juice: Pour the freshly squeezed lemon juice through a fine-mesh strainer to remove seeds and excess pulp for a smooth lemonade base.
  4. Mix the Lemonade: In a large glass pitcher, combine the slightly cooled simple syrup and the strained lemon juice. Add the remaining 4 cups of cold water and stir well to blend all flavors harmoniously.
  5. Chill the Drink: Place the pitcher in the refrigerator for at least one hour to chill the lemonade thoroughly before serving. Serve over ice cubes for the best refreshing experience.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sugar in the simple syrup according to your taste preference.
  • Using filtered or distilled water improves the clarity and taste of your lemonade.
  • Rolling lemons before juicing helps maximize the juice yield.
  • For a garnish, fresh lemon slices or mint leaves can be added when serving.
  • This recipe can be easily doubled or halved to fit your needs.
