A vibrant and crunchy fall-inspired sandwich featuring spicy pickled jalapeños, sharp cheddar melted to perfection, sweet honeycrisp apple slices, tangy grainy dijon mustard, and kettle potato chips for an addictive crunch on toasted sourdough bread.

Ingredients

Bread & Cheese

  • 2 slices of sourdough bread (or your favorite bread)
  • 1-2 ounces sliced sharp cheddar cheese

Condiments & Toppings

  • 1 tablespoon grainy dijon mustard
  • 1-2 teaspoons honey
  • 10 slices pickled jalapeños
  • 5-6 thin slices of red onion
  • ¼ honeycrisp apple, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup kettle potato chips
  • ¼ cup arugula

Instructions

  1. Toast the Bread: Place both slices of bread on a small baking sheet and broil on high in the oven for 1-2 minutes, or until lightly browned. Watch carefully to avoid burning the bread.
  2. Melt the Cheese: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and flip the slices. Cover only one slice with the cheddar cheese and return the pan to the broiler for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  3. Assemble the Sandwich: Take the pan out of the oven, layer the melted cheddar slice with the pickled jalapeños. Spread the other slice of bread with grainy dijon mustard, then drizzle honey over it. Top with thinly sliced apple, red onion, fresh arugula, and kettle potato chips.
  4. Finish & Serve: Carefully close the sandwich, press down gently until the chips crunch, slice in half, and enjoy this perfect blend of spicy, sweet, and crunchy flavors.

Notes

  • Keep a close eye when broiling as the bread and cheese can quickly burn.
  • Adjust the amount of pickled jalapeños to control the spice level.
  • Using fresh sourdough bread adds the best texture but any hearty bread works well.
  • Kettle potato chips add a delightful crunch; avoid if you want a softer sandwich.
  • Honeydrizzle balances the spice and adds a touch of sweetness complementary to the apple slices.
