This soothing turmeric tea is a vibrant and healthful beverage perfect for any time of day. Made with fresh turmeric root or powder, black pepper to enhance absorption, fresh lemon juice, and a touch of natural sweetness, it offers warming, earthy flavors and anti-inflammatory benefits. Ideal for a calming ritual or a refreshing iced drink.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce fresh turmeric root (or 1/2 to 1 teaspoon turmeric powder)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Simmer Water: Bring 4 cups of water to a gentle simmer in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add Turmeric and Pepper: Stir in the fresh turmeric root (or powder) and freshly cracked black pepper. Let the mixture simmer on low heat for 5 to 10 minutes until the tea deepens in color and develops a warm, earthy aroma.
  3. Strain and Serve: Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the tea into mugs using a fine mesh strainer for a clear cup. Stir in the fresh lemon juice. Sweeten to taste with honey or maple syrup if desired. Enjoy the tea hot, or let it cool completely and serve over ice with additional lemon juice as preferred.

Notes

  • Fresh turmeric root provides a fresher, more vibrant flavor but turmeric powder is a convenient substitute.
  • Black pepper is key to improving the absorption of turmeric’s active compound curcumin.
  • Adjust sweetness and lemon juice according to your preference for a balanced taste.
  • Turmeric tea can be enjoyed hot or chilled over ice for a refreshing alternative.
  • Use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to strain out turmeric bits for a smooth tea.
