This Pull-Apart Garlic Bread Wreath is a delicious and visually stunning appetizer or snack, perfect for sharing. Soft, fluffy dough pieces are coated in a fragrant garlic herb butter, layered with melted cheese, then baked to golden perfection in a wreath shape, making it easy to pull apart and dip into marinara sauce.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 ½ teaspoons instant dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • ⅔ cup warm water
  • 2 ½ cups plain flour (all purpose flour)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ tablespoons olive oil

Garlic Butter

  • 3 tablespoons melted dairy free butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Other

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (dairy free, lactose free or regular)
  • Marinara sauce (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine instant dry yeast, sugar, and warm water. Cover and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Make and knead the dough: Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Using the dough hook attachment, mix until a dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Continue kneading for about 8 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. First rise: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a ball. Lightly oil the mixing bowl and place the dough back inside, turning to coat with oil. Cover with a clean tea towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare garlic butter: While the dough is rising, in a small bowl mix the melted dairy-free butter, crushed garlic, chopped parsley, and dried oregano. Set this aside for later use.
  5. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  6. Shape dough pieces: After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it onto a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough into bite-sized pieces and place them into a large mixing bowl. Add most of the prepared garlic butter (reserve some for brushing later) and cheese. Gently mix to coat the dough pieces evenly with the garlic butter and cheese.
  7. Assemble in pan: In a 9-inch round springform cake pan, place an oven-safe ramekin upside down in the center. Grease the pan lightly with cooking oil spray. Arrange the buttered dough pieces around the ramekin evenly, forming a wreath shape.
  8. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Final touch: Brush the top of the baked wreath with the remaining garlic butter.
  10. Serve: Allow the bread to cool slightly, then carefully release it from the pan and remove the ramekin. Place the ramekin upright back in the center of the wreath and fill it with marinara sauce or your preferred dipping sauce. Serve warm for a delightful pull-apart experience.

Notes

  • Use warm water (about 110°F or 43°C) to activate the yeast properly without killing it.
  • Feel free to substitute dairy-free butter and cheese with regular dairy products if not lactose intolerant.
  • The ramekin in the center helps create a unique wreath shape and serves as the container for dipping sauce.
  • You can customize the herbs to your taste; basil or thyme work well too.
  • This bread is best served fresh and warm for the best pulling and dipping experience.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes to restore freshness.
